Braking: ABS pump replacement
This is an expensive repair and should only be considered once full diagnostics have been done to determine that it is the correct course of action.
If it is diagnosed as a faulty pump, then in most cases the cheapest way to get the system operational is to have the current one tested and repaired. The ABS pump usually has the ABS ECU as part of it.
This means that it will be specifically coded to the car, so a 2nd hand unit from another vehicle is unlikely to work and they can rarely be re-coded to the vehicle. New pumps are very expensive and they will then also need to be coded to the vehicle.
In some cases this coding can only be done by a dealership which adds to the cost. Therefore we recommend the full diagnostic check initially to prove it is faulty, then having your own unit tested and repaired.
The unit can be removed and then refitted after repair by the technician, who can quote you accordingly if this is required, however you will be without the vehicle during the repair to the unit, which can take 5-10 days.
