Clutch: DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) replacement
If you have been told your DMF needs replacing at the same time as your clutch it is likely that you have a car who's engine produces a considerable amount of torque (power). The DMF is a device that reduces the vibration from the engine into the gearbox and cabin as well.
If your clutch has been slipping for a period of time, it is likely that you will have damaged the flywheel as well as the additional wear and possibly even the worn clutch surface may have caused an issue.
The other reason to change it, is if the vehicle has done considerable mileage (100,000 +) or if you do a lot of towing. As the DMF is fundamentally two round plates joined together with springs, these springs can weaken and break and if that occurs you have to replace the clutch again to change it.
Please be aware that a damaged flywheel can cause complications with the clutch. In the event that you are booking a clutch replacement do make a consideration that the flywheel may require replacement also as the flywheels condition can void the warranty guarantee of your clutch replacement.
