This was my first use of clickmechanic.com.

As my car would not start, following intermittent problems, I opted to look for a mechanical service that could come to me for diagnoses, rather than pay to have the car transported to a mechanic.

The booking process was straight forward and user friendly, with a well laid out website.

First contact with the mechanic failed to inspire confidence. After being told that, a little over an hour before the appointment window opened, that he 'had only just had time to look at the details', suggested that I bring the car to them. I made it clear that the car was a non-starter making this difficult. As the phone call progressed, I increasing felt that I was having to persuade them to attend. Eventually they agreed to attend.

Arriving 15min before the end of the window, I was greeted with 'sorry were are late...keys?'. Bar showing them how to open the bonnet, this was the total communication from the two persons who attended for the next twenty minuets, until I was told the the crankshaft sensor was not operating when the ignition was operated and that he 'wanted to get to the garage to spend a spend a bit of time on it' - a phrase that I might associate with a classic car enthusiast indulging their passion at a weekend, not a professional look to efficiently fault diagnose and fix.

A subsequent quote for £380 with a vague description followed a few hours after departure.

At no point did I feel as though this garage were engaged with me or really had any interest in taking on this job, which was so disappointing, considering the really positive reviews for this business, and based on this experience, decided not to proceed further with them.

They did provide me with some information and feedback, and while I don't doubt any ability or honesty, saw little evidence of any engagement with a prospective new customer.

On this experience, it in unlikely I will use clickmechanic.com again, and return to using main dealer services. The adage 'you get what you pay for' springs to mind. Read more
