They came last minute which I am grateful for, and they did the job that I had paid them to do.
However, they also tried to convince me that my gearbox fork was bent and needed replacing (my car is hydraulic so does not have one). It was quite obvious when they picked the car up that I knew nothing about cars. The guy phoned me initially to tell me it needed replacing (why did he not do it straight through ClickMechanic like he did when he said I needed a new rear bearing wheel shortly after? - oh yeah! It doesn't exist!).
I spoke to them on 3 separate occasions when querying this gearbox fork - the first time they rang me, the second time I rang them and specifically stated my name and the car I owned and the year of the car.
On the fourth time I had to ask someone else to call for me - when they told the mechanic that my car does not have such a part he said "oh it is the terminology, it is the terminology, it is alright, she can't afford it anyway, we've fixed it, it's the terminology" - sounds a bit like he was caught off guard!
When the company dropped the car off the chap said to me "sorry about the gearbox fork - he got confused with a different car". That would have been believable if he had not given a different excuse to my mother the day before and if I had called without introducing myself or stating the car that I owned each time I called. To speak to someone on three different occasions, know their name and what car they own and still claim to be confused when trying to get them to pay for a nonsense part is VERY confused and perhaps requires a visit to the neurologist!!!
They did the job that I needed done, but they targeted me because I can only assume that my lack of knowledge on cars could suggest I was an easy target. I am student, my annual income is £8k and the stress that this supposed issue caused me was unreal. Thankfully I have knowledgeable, trustworthy people I can call to verify claims such as these. I have no doubt that had I said do it and paid for it that they would have taken my money regardless. My concern, however is, for the next vulnerable individual who does not have anyone they can call to ask, and so mindlessly pays for these ridiculous charges. A quality mechanic is one who gets the job done and one who you should be able to trust with something that your livelihood so depends on. They did the job, but trust is non-existent. A good communicating mechanic is one who keeps you updated (admittedly, he did after my mother phoned and caught him off guard) but also one who does not lie (basic rule of communication skills there).
COWBOYS!
If you need the job done, this company is fine - if you think you might be taken in by lies, avoid like the plague!
