What a waste of £71! Turned up 20 minutes late, did not know car was diesel so tried to start it straight away, questioned if it always started badly, I advised him that it was a diesel car! Told me the clutch was going, new clutch put in 3 years ago ! took car for a 5 minute drive, advised me the fly wheel was going..... work sheet shows that a diagnostic check was to be done... I got a 'mechanics' opinion and with that he left.... feel conned .............

Hi, sorry you feel this way. The job description was for a thumping under the bonnet for which I listened & looked in to. No electrical diagnosis/computer needed. I had agreed 9am call out. The sat nav stopped working as it’s a dead zone/no signal area. Arriving later than expected & apologising, I then looked over the car. Having immediately noticed a very loud release bearing, I knew the gearbox would require removing. The customer told me it’s not the problem. So I went on road test to try to work out more.
The noise is intermittent. I could here the thumping described. When I returned, checked the oil & water level & further listening/inspecting the engine.
I then realised if you slowly raise the rpm the banging is more prominent. With the clutch depressed there was no banging noise. I checked if the vehicle has a dual mass flywheel later on as had no 4G at the location, which it did. I mentioned the flywheel to the customer & she had remembered another garage mentioning about this previously when the vehicle was serviced. I later completed a follow on quote for the work.
I had a call complaining after this about time/price. The customer told me they have no idea about cars but it’s not the flywheel. It’s hard when you aren’t trusted for your professional opinion & I tried my best to explain what was required to fix the problem. Im very polite, as always & as helpful as can be. I’m happy with my service provided.
