Brake pads replacement - front (all)
Brake pads replacement - rear (all)
When removing the rear brake pads we have found that the OSR caliper is binding and causing excess wear on the pads and also the disc. This would require replacing the OSR caliper & rear brake discs to rectify.

This was an absolute disaster from start to finish, complicated somewhat by the fact my place of work has no phone signal due to its concrete construction and remote location. I do get signal if I go outside, but not inside.

However, despite being booked for between 8-10am Friday morning, they were running late, but managed to reach me very successfully via the messaging service on the ClickMechanic website. A service which I'd like to point out is very simple to use and works particularly well. I received this, called them back, and being at work and in no particular rush, the delay was of no consequence to me and absolutely fine.

My car was collected (by one man, one car), and as there was nowhere to park his car on the narrow country lane, I took his car key and offered to park his car in our secure car park for his return. He told me that the number I'd given them was wrong and that they couldn't reach me to tell me they were running late, I told him I have no signal in the building, pointing to the thick concrete walls, and that if they need to speak to me, they need to do it via the website, the same way they had done earlier. He nodded his understanding. They said the work would be completed by about 4pm, which fortuitously coincided with the time I was due to finish work.

This is where it went wrong.

I should mention at this point (for context) that I work in the middle of nowhere, and my house is several counties away. The nearest shop is 4 miles in any direction, and the only thing nearby is a scattering of houses, the odd tractor and a few friendly sheep. I waited until 5pm as I'd still had no contact and went outside and called their office. I couldn't get through. Their answer machine didn't say they were closed, just that nobody was available to take my call. So, I waited. And waited. And waited. And when I'd finished waiting, I waited some more. About a dozen calls to the office were placed during this time without success. By 7.30pm I decided out of desperation, to hijack their car and drive to their premises to find out what the hell was going on. It was dark and very closed. I was stranded. My wallet and house keys were in my car. In desperation, I had no alternative to take their car to drive the 80 miles and two hours home. It would be an understatement to say I was fairly cross by this point and left a message on the ClickMechanic website to this effect. I noticed again ironically how well this service works and how easy it is to use.

First thing Saturday morning, I received a call with a thinly veiled apology to say my car had been finished yesterday and that they hadn't returned it because they weren't able to reach me, they'd tried calling my number and could they drop it off now? This boiled my blood for a number of reasons. Firstly, they already knew they couldn't reach me on the phone BECAUSE I TOLD THEM. Second, they didn't try to reach out to me via the website, LIKE I ASKED THEM. Thirdly, I don't even know WHY it was absolutely CRITICAL they needed to speak to me, the work had been done, they told me when it would be done and they just need needed to DROP THE CAR BACK. Or message me via the website as agreed.

We're not dating, we don't need to arrange to meet up. You pick up the car, do the work, and return it when you're done, and in return you're paid well for your troubles. It's a very simple process which I feel doesn't need to be complicated further. Their excuse was that they knew I finished at 4 and as the work had run past that, they didn't know where I'd be. This made me even crosser. They'd remembered that I finished at 4pm but forgotten my phone is useless inside the building. Not only that, having been to my work location earlier that day, they wondered where I'd be? They should know where I'd be, there's nowhere else to go with no car! It's in the middle of nowhere, where the hell else would I be? I don't have a cape and I'm sure as hell not Superman. So, current events not withstanding, any person with even half a shred of common sense would just try to return the car anyway? Surely? It was fixed and only a few miles away. It's a 7-minute drive according to Google not the other side of the country. No, they decided I wasn't worth risking wasting 14 minutes of their life on the off chance I wasn't there, and after some very careful deliberation, they decided the best course of action was to lock the garage up and sod off home and to hell with him. If he's not going to take a stupid phone call (which they knew I couldn't) - to have a conversation (that we didn't need to have) then he can spend the night in alone in a cold office two hours from home.

Needless to say, the conversation on Saturday morning was particularly unproductive (I don't have time for disingenuous excuses) - and I understandably ended up getting somewhat animated. Which means I shouted and swore a lot. I'm really sorry about that.

I'm actually not (that was a disingenuous apology).

Anyway, when the car was returned to me at work on Monday morning, I noticed the work seemed to have been carried out to a satisfactory standard.

The moral of this story is, Go Vehicles seem to want to have a conversation with you before they return your car, which is fair enough I guess, most garages do. But if some reason that conversation can't take place, even when they know it can't, rather than just drive 7 minutes to return it and have the conversation in person, they simply down tools and go home and to hell if you're stuck in the middle of nowhere at half seven on a Friday night, two hours from home, with no keys, no wallet and nowhere to go and nobody to pick your kids up.

I'm a fair man so I'll balance this review by mentioning that they seemed fairly capable mechanics, but their service was pathetic. Their excuses and explanations were no better.

I have given them one star for punctuality and communication only because the website won't allow me to give them nothing.

I won't use them again; I'd rather walk blindfolded through a field of rattlesnakes.

Reply from GO Vehicle Serivces Limited:

Dear John,

Firstly please accept our apologies for not getting your car back to you . We collect and return dozens of cars a week, where we have great communication with our customers and they all run smoothly.

I understand this job ran late as the vehicle needed extra work, and our service team were trying to contact you several times (4pm, 4:45pm and 5:15pm) to check you hadn't made other arrangements and were no longer at work. As you say the site/building has very unique circumstances and we needed to check we could access the car we left at your site and that you were still there to receive the car back.

Despite us trying to reach you 3 times after your scheduled finish time we never managed to reach you, and we did not hear from you either - although you advise you did try to call us once.

I agree, we should have used the Click Mechanic portal to also message you, and the team here will use this learning going forward.

I accept our team were too focussed on the fact that you finished work at 4pm, the vehicle was not ready until 4:45pm due to the additional works and parts required, and despite 3 attempts to call you after your 4pm finished time and by 5.15pm we still could not reach you.

We apologise again that the return of the car did not go smoothly, and as I say, we call and communicate effectively with all of our other customers perfectly well every day and the return all goes very smoothly.

We will take the learnings available and we always strive to continually improve in every area of our business.

Best regards
Richard
