I booked my 2014 Corsa in for a major service with Fix My Wheels in East Sussex via ClickMechanic back in November. The price was decent at around £250 compared to £300 elsewhere, but I now wish I’d just paid the extra for a reputable local mechanic.

Firstly, auto-fill changed my email to .com instead of .co.uk. While that wasn’t ClickMechanic’s fault, they couldn’t simply amend it—instead, they cancelled my booking and made me rebook, which delayed everything by a week.

On the day of the service, the mechanic didn’t call to give me an ETA. When he did eventually call, he said the MOT bay was broken so he couldn’t do the MOT.
He arrived outside the agreed collection window, then called and asked if I wanted the spark plugs changed—something I’d already paid for as part of the major service. He tried to talk me out of it but eventually agreed.

When I drove the car afterward, I immediately noticed it was idling weirdly, like the spark plugs were misfiring. I messaged through ClickMechanic and arranged a time for him to check it out and do the MOT. On the day, he called to say he’d be late because a staff member had quit. Later, he told me his friend would return the car due to being short-staffed. I asked again about the misfiring, but he insisted it was the clutch—something I knew wasn’t right.

When his friend returned the car, I found half-eaten chips, an open can of Coke, and evidence of smoking inside, plus a lighter left behind. I never received a copy of the MOT, so I checked online and saw an advisory for a mark on the indicator light—which doesn’t exist.

I called the mechanic, who apologised and had his friend call me to do the same—only for him to ask what I’d done with the food as he was “hungry.” I brought up the indicator advisory and was brushed off.

I then arranged an independent inspection at Mr Clutch, who confirmed the issue was not my clutch. When I contacted ClickMechanic, they said I had to deal with the mechanic directly. He offered to take another look if I drove the car to him—over 45 minutes away. I initially agreed but then decided it wasn’t worth the hassle.

In the end, I had to pay out of pocket to get the misfiring sorted elsewhere, which thankfully it now is—but that’s no thanks to ClickMechanic or Fix My Wheels. ClickMechanic may claim to just be a middleman, but they need to take responsibility for the mechanics they list and advertise. I won’t be recommending them to anyone.

My car was not picked up at the specified time slot, though this may have been a fault with ClinckMechanic's booking system, or the driver, and not with Jay. My Nissan Note needed new blower motors and resistor which I appreciate was a massive job for a Nissan Note as the whole dash needs to come out. Jay got the parts ordered and completed work super quickly which was amazing as I was on a time crunch to go away. My only other concern was, as I was anxious to get the car back quickly, I needed a bit more communication around timings but I know this isn't always possible.

No I am not happy. Several problems have arisen with this job. Firstly he arrived an hour and 15 mins late from my 2 hour time slot 8-10am on Monday. No communication at all. The job was for a clutch replacement and possibly a flywheel. I was quoted 4/5 hours give or take. Monday evening I had heard nothing so I rang up to find it needs a flywheel and the parts coming Tuesday morning 10am. I was told I should get it back Tuesday daytime. Tuesday evening came and heard nothing. I rang again to be told the part hadn’t arrived. And yet again I won’t be getting it back until Wednesday. I rang after work to find apparently the mechanic had started to return the car to me and heard a noise coming from the car so went back to the garage. He said it was something I hadn’t heard of and hadn’t had issues with it before. He then went to leave the garage again and yet again drove back to the garage hearing the noise again. So yet again I didn’t get my car back. Thursday morning came and he finally dropped the car off. My dad spoke to him and the mechanic said in his personal opinion I should get rid of the car and get another. He said he had cars he can offer me. We caught this conversation on doorbell camera. When I got home from work I took it for a drive and found an engine warning light on the dashboard. Also the cars power I feel is a lot less. I understand a new clutch makes the car drive differently but it doesn’t feel like my car anymore. I am very upset as the lack of communication and stress that this has caused me has been so difficult to deal with. I said to the mechanic I needed my car for a new job but he didn’t seem rushed to get it back to me at all. When I gave my car to the mechanic the only problem being was the clutch and I had it diagnosed that it was the clutch 2 days earlier by another mechanic from this site. So when I got it back today I was upset to see an engine warning light and the drive of the car is completely different. The lack of communication and absolutely poor customer service is awful and I will be telling everyone not to use this garage. Also he threatened my dad during a phone call saying he would come over to my address and take my car away. As I feel my car is not safe I have got in touch with someone else to come and have a look before I drive it. The mechanic I asked to come and have a look said something wasn’t connected properly. To conclude my main problem with this is lack of communication I appreciate there are many reasons why things can’t get done on time, but a quick phone call would of alleviated any stress and help me organise my week better. Getting my car back with a fault I didn’t have before I gave them the car is not right. And after telling them the fault he said it wasn’t anything to with him. Which turned out it was. Read more

I would definitely use Jay (mechanic) again if needed but let down by an extra £40 charge for a ClickMechanic Priority slot fee: for visits between 19 Aug and 20 Aug when the visit was 21 Aug and the job was done on 22 Aug/

The mechanic was on time, communicated well, the car was fixed and works better than anticipated. It was an expensive job due to the price of parts, but overall was well within expectations. Highly recommended.
