Braking: Electronic handbrake unit and control failure
Electronic handbrake mechanisms frequently fail and/or put too much strain on the cables and they break.
The electronic motors often have the cables as an integral part of the motor mechanism and the whole unit has to be replaced. Often the cause of the issue is water and dirt ingress into the unit and that is where the cables rust as well.
Either way, the whole unit has to be striped out and replaced and then connected to the handbrake levers at the rear wheels. Once this is done, the technician need to re-calibrate the unit to the controlling ECU.
