What is a vehicle health check?

The Vehicle Health Check is a 28-point visual inspection of your vehicle to ensure it's safe to drive and roadworthy.
Please be aware you can be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.

For drivers whose MOT due date has been extended:

Please note the government has automatically extended the expiry date of all MOTs due from 30th March 2020 by 6 months. However, as per the government guidelines if you plan to use your vehicle through this period you must make sure your vehicle is safe to drive (‘roadworthy’) as it can be unsafe even if your MOT expiry date has been extended. The Vehicle Health Check provides a suitable alternative to booking an MOT at this time.

What is included in a vehicle health check?

Interior compartment

Check condition and operation of all seat belts
Check operation of interior lights
Check operation of malfunction warning lights (all)
Check horn

Check timing belt replacement interval
Check and top up all under bonnet fluid levels
Check cooling system including fan operation
Check all auxiliary drive belts (not timing belt)

Check for engine and gearbox oil leaks

Wheels & tyres

Check front right tyre

Check rear right tyre
Check rear left tyre
Check spare wheel condition
Check torque wheel nuts/studs / Locking wheel nut key location

Bodywork & exterior

Check for damage to bodywork, lamps and trims
Check operation exterior lights
Check windscreen washers and wipers

Front suspension, brakes & steering

Check operation and condition of disc brakes
Check operation of Road springs
Check operation of Shock absorbers (condition/leaks)
