Ford Transit Connect Power steering pump replacement

After quitting the pump the mechanic said that the replacement steering pump did not fix the problem, that the vehicle would require a diagnostic appointment and that we should book this online. We took the vehicle to a local mechanic. He topped the steering fluid up. The problem is now fixed. I would have thought that checking steering fluid levels would be part of the procedure when replacing a steering pump.

As part of the replacement service the lost fluid is replenished and the bleeding of the system is carried out to ensure the fluid is within the manufacturers recommended values. I can confirm this was checked out as part of completion checks of the service.
