His report was prompt and informative and photos were highly illuminating.
The vehicle had seemed to me to be a bit of a gem but Joe scratched the metaphorical surface to reveal something of a turkey. His standard pre-purchase inspection saved me from the imminent pitfall of hefty maintenance and repair bills that would have run into the thousands.
I could perhaps have negotiated the vendor down in light of all this, and Joe's fee would more than have paid for itself, but I opted not to be bothered with the headache.
Joe was apologetic, understanding that what I really wanted was a glowing appraisal of the vehicle, but his honesty was more important, which he proffered with great tact.
