Audi A3 Cabriolet Alternator replacement

Fred was friendly and knew how to operate a obd machine. Not sure about much else though. I asked if he was going to test the alternator before replacing it and he said no he would replace it and then test for electrical faults. This was not what I expected and seemed the wrong way round to me. I could have replaced the alternator myself if I was sure it was at fault. However, the problem is now resolved. He also carried out a pre MOT check and told me in order to pass an MOT the car would need 2 new wiper blades, a new rear brake caliper, 2 rear brake discs and pads. I received a quote from his boss for over £400 to carry out the necessary work. Guess what - I replaced the brake pads and one wiper blade which cost a total of £30!! The car has now passed it's MOT! I certainly will not be using the services of Jamie's Mobile Mechanics again. Very disappointed with the service and the attempt to rip me off for £400! Read more

On arrival you explained your vehicle was diagnosed hence the fact you booked the vehicle in for repairs and not a diagnostics.
The vehicle was booked for a vehicle heath check and not for a pre mot check. Your vehicle had no steering multiple fault lights on the dash the alternator was not charging properly when I arrived. before I left you had no fault codes in the system your battery was fully charged and your alternator was charging perfectly.
The proof of all the faults are on the invoice with pictures showing the off side rear brake pads right down to the metal. However your near side rears pads were fine.
The calliper on the off side rear was sticking badly.
If the work carried out could have been done by yourself the vehicle would have been booked in for a diagnostics rather than a repair.
Unfortunately we do not fit cheap parts on vehicle’s. You have supposedly long replaced one wiper at the front when one was split and the other was not far behind.
If the brake pads and one wiper cost you £30 supplied and fitted I’d recommend as anyone would to get both side’s replaced as brake pads are done in pairs not just the worn side.

Jamie was great he did a timing belt replacement on my Citreon C4 in 2hrs. He came a little later than expected but he'd called me to let me know earlier in the day & check it wasn't a problem. He removed a damaged underpan that wasn't safe & showed me & explained it was still safe to drive - I have very limited car knowledge! Would definitely recommend & use again.
